Events (and the reasons we hold them)
As you know, a support group is only as good as its members/participants.
We hold events throughout the year that everyone is welcome to - members or not - to meet others and get to know about the cleft lip and palate condition a bit more.
For our children, it's about meeting others who have some kind of understanding of what they may be going through.
For the parents and other family members, it's about talking through things, listening to others and sharing our experiences and knowledge.
Please join us at any of the events you see listed below - we'd love to meet you.
What's happening this year?
Meet Ups (formally known as Morning Teas)
2009 -- July | August | September| October|
2010 -- February | March | April | May | June|
No Morning Teas are scheduled for November, December or January.
Click on the month above to see where the event will be held.

National Cleft Awareness Week (NCAW)
November 8 - 14th
Each year CleftPALS Australia Inc holds the NCAW. This year, we are hosting the "Caps on for CleftPALS" day which is a gold coin donation to wear your favourite cap to work or school. The money this raises helps us to raise the awareness of the cleft lip/palate condition throughout Australia. More information on how you can support this event is to come.

The CleftPALS SA Christmas Catch Up 2009
We are hoping to hold the CleftPALS SA Christmas event at the Bush Magic Play Park, Jeffcott Street, North Adelaide (next to the Aquatic centre). The date is still to be finalised but it will be most likely the second Saturday of December which should be the first day of the kid's school holidays. More information to come!

CleftPALS Australia Inc's
National A.G.M and
Speaker's Day - July 2010
This will be the first time Adelaide has hosted the AGM and Speaker's Day in over thirteen years. We are working behind the scenes already to pull this event together. We hope to highlight the leading surgical methods used in today's cleft care plan and we expect to have a line up of informative speakers on the day to give you up to date information about the cleft lip and palate care here in SA.
Meet Ups:
Please note that the cost of attending on the day is not the responsibility of CleftPALS SA. Contact the Cafe to find out about entry costs and if socks must be worn, etc.

- CHRISTIES BEACH
No one attended this meeting. I waited until 11:20 then left.

SATURDAY 7th FEBRUARY 2009 - 10:30 am

This meet up was undoubtedly one of the best CleftPALS SA has held.
It was well attended, with new families making the trip to the very hot KidzBiz Cafe. It was great to see familiar faces as well as new ones, and the circle of children getting to know each other is growing well.
It's very pleasing.
Phone numbers and contact information was exchanged at this meeting and we are on the VERGE of a committee - all we need is people to put their hand up and say "I can do that".
I'm looking forward to the next one in the south now! I have many families there that feel Marion is too far away so I'll hold it in Christies Beach - hopefully that's a better location for the 'Southies' to meet up. That's being held in March so don't miss out!
SATURDAY 17th JANUARY 2009 - 10:30 am Meet Up.
A gorgeous day set the scene for a great meet up.
It was lovely to see some new families attend this meet up, and we ALMOST had a committee formed, but alas it was not to be (I cajoled but did not bribe.. perhaps a bribe next time LOL).
The children had a great time mixing together and playing on the amazing equipment in this park.
We even had a person stop by at the end of the meet up and ask for our number as they knew of a woman having a cleft-affected child. We hope to hear from her. I gave my contact card (yay for having them made up! :) )
My husband attended this meet up too which was a really nice change.

Community BBQ - St Peters

The Community BBQ went very well, thanks to the amazing organisation of Carly and Trevor, and the Pursche family and friends!!
Despite bad weather, there was a steady stream of patrons, and Trevor enjoyed himself so much that he's considering holding another in January 2009!! Be sure to come along, meet the gang and enjoy a yummy snag or two (yes, and there were onions!!).
And a HUGE thanks to the sponsors of the day....
Many thanks to the amazing folks at Baker's Delight in the Parabanks Shopping Mall for their incredible donation of 18 loaves of bread for the day - Be sure to pop in and pick yourself up a yummy treat from their store, knowing they have the community spirit! Tell them CleftPALS SA sent you ;-D
Many thanks to the Managers of Dan Murphys for allowing the set up of the BBQ in their car park. When considering your Christmas drinks this year, check out Dan Murphy's on Paynehman Road, St Peters. Another company with the community spirit (no pun!).
Thanks also to the guys at Leighton Contractors for their help in keeping things tied down, secured to the spot and for pitching in with a turn of a sausage or two on the day!! Leighton Contractors have been a major supporter of CleftPALS SA already this year, pitching in with a mighty generous donation earlier in the year and their pledge to continue to support the group throughout the coming year(s) is really appreciated!
And, as always - last but by no means least...
Incredible thanks to Trevor's family and friends who kindly volunteered their time and energy to raise funds for this group. It was a true pleasure to meet you all on the day and thank you for all you did for the group!

The hard working Snag-Team.... Thanks guys and girls!!!

Morning Teas

January 17 will be the first Morning Tea for the New Year. I'm holding it one week later than usual to allow time for all of us to get over the silly season and settle into 2009. Due to location of new members, I'm considering changing the location of the Morning Teas so if you have a great place that you know about and would like to share with us, please let us know. I'm also considering a more 'central' location so that the 'northies' and 'southies' can mingle!!! :) For more information, see Morning Teas.
Let me know what you think! This is YOUR support group, remember.
Morning Teas are traditionally held on the Second Saturday of the Month (so that I don't have to think too hard, I guess!!), and will go back to that in February 2009.
