CleftPALS Australia Inc's National AGM

July 3rd and 4th, 2009

 Sydney, NSW

my version of the weekend - Getting There - Thursday.

Getting there | First Day | Second Day Pt 1 | Second Day Pt 2

So it's the Thursday and each state's reps fly in at different times.

I had the duty this year of 'holding the keys' which meant that when I arrived earlier in the day all the keys were left in my apartment and my key was 'hidden' in the parking garage. I had hired a car for the trip so that my family and I could get about more easily and travel into Sydney proper on the Sunday once the AGM was over.

The apartments chosen for us were stunning!  Such a lovely spacious place to hang out in.  We were in the 3 bedroom apartment and we were to share later with another delegate from Victoria - Mick - who was appearing as a speaker on Saturday discussing  Pierre Robin Sequence.

The other states each had two people and they were in two other apartments that were 2 bedroom each (so counting on my fingers that makes 6 people into four bedrooms).  It seems like there would be enough room but considering one room in each of those apartments had double beds (and we don't expect delegates to share beds!!) we were a little concerned about numbers (we, being Ros and I). I started to prepare the family for a move into another apartment if needed as we could fit into a double and two singles and two other states could use the two twin rooms in our apartment, leaving the double bed for Mick when he arrived later.

This was until I was walking around with Neeva and she said that she and her other delegate Pam knew they would be 'split' up into different apartments as they had each opted to do that and have a double bed each. Luckily Neeva has a sharp eye and picked up that one of the two bedroom apartments was actually a three bedroom apartment!  How lucky for us that that was wrong!  This meant everyone got to sleep with their own state delegate in the same apartment and no one had to split up.  And my family and I could all stay in the room we'd settled into earlier that day!!

So during the rest of the day as the others arrived I greeted them like it was my own home (LOL) as I let them into their rooms and handed over their keys.

Ros - the National President and a NSW delegate - had arrived earlier with bowls of welcoming food/treats/drink which was a very lovely touch.  We placed one in each room and they were very appreciated!

Once all states were safely in their rooms I could finally head to bed for the night - it had been along day for us as we had left SA early so were up at 6 am! We'd also walked into Parramatta earlier that day and went to the Westfield Shopping Mall. Suffice to say, I was WIPED and I knew that Friday was going to be a big day for me and my poor little typing fingers!.

next - the second day there... Friday.
